A Note From The Author
“Puberty can be a worrying and confusing time and it can be difficult to know how to approach and navigate the many changes that will happen especially for girls with intellectual disabilities and their families and educators. Many of the existing resources and information is often not appropriate or is conveyed in a unsuitable way. So I have created this practical, accessible puberty guide with child friendly visuals and colour coding for ease of access. I have written it in a social story style format using directive language and positive phrasing. I am delighted to present my newest character Isla, who is herself neurodiverse and conveys the factual information in this book with a reassuring, repetitive and inclusive tone with the help of her playful pet cat, trusted adult and peers. I hope that you find this a much needed and valuable resource as you navigate through this milestone.”
